There Are Two Types of Believers, Which One Are You?

There Are Two Types of Believers, Which One Are You?

My sister’s Christmas gift from her son was a surprise vacation trip planned by her son and his wife with a stipulation…. it included me. Not knowing the destination nor the date, I said yes! It was like Christmas all over again when we got the news with beach bags, beach towels and hats; we were going to the beach, a beautiful resort in Destin, Florida.

As I headed out for my flight to New Orleans to meet up with my sister, Margaret, I dropped a Mother’s Psalm 91 book into my small carry-on, after all, I was flying on Mother’s Day. I asked the Lord to help me get the books in the right hands on this trip. The other books I planned to share were in my checked bag. A short 55-minute layover in DFW didn’t leave much time but I ducked into a Brighton store and began a conversation with the clerk. I asked if she’d heard of Psalm 91. She looked at me and without hesitation said, “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High shall abide in the shadow of the Almighty.” She also recited every book of the Bible in order and said she had learned that as a child. Well, having shared many Psalm 91 books, this was a first. Glenda went on to say that she prayed the ninety-first psalm daily during her commute to work. She gave me her name and address as I dug through my carry-on and the book seemed to be missing. No problem, I would mail her one. With moments to spare before boarding began, I looked again and there it was in an outside pocket. I rushed to share it with her and a friend had stopped by her store and they promised to share the book between them. When I got back home, I mailed her another favorite book, Those Who Trust the Lord Shall Not Be Disappointed, since I had her address. About a month later, Glenda called me… it was a surprise to hear from her and a call that I cherished. After thanking me for the books, she went on to ask for prayer for healing for her niece, Monique.

At the resort, we had been scheduled to a morning in the on-site Spa. As Margaret received a massage, I was treated to an hour long facial. In conversation, I asked Belle if there was anything she needed prayer for? I waited as I thought to myself, “Was she a Christian? Why the silence and long pause?” Then, she began to thoughtfully share that her mother-in-law who had been diagnosed with dementia had been in a senior living home but wasn’t receiving the care they had hoped for. They had lovingly brought her home. Could I pray for them as they work to provide for her needs. I prayed out loud, then waited. “I have another request.” It was pertaining to her husband’s best employee who needed help to fill out his renewal form for a green card, something on the form was missing and he was trying to figure out what that something was. It was expiring and he was working toward becoming a permanent resident and citizen…” When I finished praying the second time, she replied, “Amen.” We ended our session with hugs and a Psalm 91 book was shared. Belle hugged it to herself and told me she listened to psalms on the Bible App as she drove to work each day.

One evening, as I was heading to my room, I saw the same worker as I had seen the previous night in the same location. She was tidying up the coffee and ice machine room. I had a nudge from the Holy Spirit to give her a book, so I asked her, “Do you like to read?” After a good look at me, her answer was “Yes!” I told her I had a book for her and asked where she would be in a couple of minutes. She was heading down one floor to the same room below us. I asked if she could stay right there and I’d be right back… It seemed with her to be okay to wait… sort of. So, I knew I needed to hurry. I got to my room, grabbed a Psalm 91 for Mother’s book and closed my hotel door. The hallways were long. She had come around the corner to check and make sure I wasn’t wasting her time. As quickly as I could, I handed her the book and said, “I think you’ll really like this book. I’m close friends with the author.” She was shocked… in disbelief. She began saying, “I just got off the phone with my brother. I was just telling him to pray Psalm 91!! I swear to, NO! I’m not going to swear but we can call him right now and verify. I promise you just a couple minutes before you asked me if I liked to read, I had told him to pray Psalm 91 over his new car. ‘Don’t you drive that car until you have prayed Psalm 91 over it. Go around it three times and bless your car and pray over it.’” She was amazed and in awe. I said, “God is good, He gave you confirmation,” and she firmly agreed. I went on to say, “He gave me confirmation too, that I was to share a book with you!”

Margaret and I had talked earlier that week of a way to witness that I’d heard evangelists Charles and Frances Hunter had used. They would ask the waitress, taxi driver, attendant, etc. “Did you know there are two types of “shuttle drivers” in the world? Those who are born-again and those who are about to be. Which are you?” They were a notorious soul-winning couple. Walking into the restaurant, Margaret prayed for the Lord to be with her and give her the words as she shared the Lord with someone we would meet inside.” Margaret used the Hunter’s soul-winning approach one evening at a Longhorn Steakhouse. Our waitress, a woman in her late 20’s or early 30’s had come back to the table to take our order. Margaret used the new method…

“Did you know there are two kinds of waitresses in the world, those who have asked Jesus into their hearts and those who are about to. Which are you?” The waitress had been cautious when the question was still being said, but at the end exclaimed, “I was born again at 13.” Margaret said, we have a book to give you that tells you of God’s protection promises for you. With the Psalm 91 book in her hand, our waitress began to say, “Thank you! I can’t wait to tell my mom. My mama is a woman of prayer and has always said she has a direct line to God when she prays. Once, when I lived at home with her in Dallas, a tornado was headed straight for our house. My mama went outside and began to command that storm to not come near us and prayed in her prayer language. The storm did miss us! Oh, I can’t wait to tell her about this meeting. I’ll start reading this book tonight!”

Another evening we had an interesting waitress originally from Czechoslovakia who we enjoyed conversation with. What fun we had trying to imitate her speech as she taught us to speak a couple of things in Czech, “Jsme na plazi,” meaning, “We are at the beach!” And “Děkuji” for “Thank you.” Ah! We didn’t have a book with us to share with her. We made a couple of trips back to the restaurant to give her a book; once it was her day off and another the restaurant was closed. When I returned home, I kept praying for Janelle and within a week felt impressed to mail her a book with a note about the most important page in the book. (Each version of the various Psalm 91 books by Peggy Joyce Ruth has a page with a sample prayer to help guide a reader into asking the Lord into their lives). In my note that accompanied her book I let her know God had her on His mind so much, he had a woman back in Texas (me) praying for her, a Czech woman living in Florida. I finished by saying “Janelle, I look forward to meeting you in heaven one day.”

There were other books shared and handed off in elevators, hallways and to the cleaning crew. I left a few books at my sister’s home. One book went to her hairstylist. The woman sitting nearby in a salon chair piped in, “That’s a psalm about protection.” When asked if she’d like a book, she received a copy also. A young waiter received the approach… there are two types of waiters… to which opened up a conversation about the Lord. On the next visit when Wally was at work, he found time to come and sit at the booth with my sister and ask for prayer for his grandmother. His heart toward God is softening. Wally has been offered a new job with better wages and will soon be on to a new adventure.

Some plant the seed, some water and some harvest. Psalm 91 books are a beautiful way to share the gospel and the love of our heavenly Father with what the world calls, “perfect strangers.” But in reality, none of us are perfect and we all need a Savior to forgive our sins. If sharing the book goes to a believer, it can be used to strengthen their faith to stand against the evils in the world. If it goes to an unbeliever, you might be able to win them to the Lord, or pray for them, but at least you’ll plant a seed or water what has already been planted. Some say it’s a bold approach, yet it can be subtle.

Didn’t Jesus often minister “On His way?” The Lord gave me this some years back, “Every person we come in contact with is a potential divine appointment. We will be led by the Spirit of God to know the unique needs of the individual whether it be salvation, healing or prayer for deliverance. Heaven’s count will be increased because God is working in our lives to empty hell. No person is too insignificant; no person is too influential to speak God’s Word to.”

The book approach allows me to meet people where they are, so, I have a question to ask you, “There are two kinds of believers in the world. Those who share their faith with others and those who are about to. Which are you?” If you haven’t been witnessing, then consider the book approach. Ask yourself “What is my favorite book? Can I purchase several copies to have on hand to share? Will I add this to my next trip out of town and ask the Lord to show me who to share with?”
