When my son went to war in Afghanistan, I sent a small laminated copy of Psalm 91 with him. On May 18th I felt a great need to pray for him all day, even asking friends and family to pray for him. A few days later I learned the story of what happened that day. One of the marines in his rifle company was shot in the back of the head. Another Marine’s weapon jammed. My son passed his weapon to that Marine and crawled out to the injured Marine to try and save him. He worked on him and kept him breathing until he was picked up hot by a helicopter. While he was in the middle of an open field with bullets flying he said it was like someone was standing in front of him directing the shells to the right or left of him. They were very close to him, some barely an inch away, but none struck him. When he got home months later, I was going through some of his things to see if anything needed washing and found the Psalm 91 card in his pocket, rather bent up. I mentioned it to him and he told me he carried it with him the whole time frequently reading it. He believed that it was an angel diverting those bullets away from him and that Psalm 91 saved him.
I was told about the Psalm by my father’s best friend who was a marine in WWII. He had a copy of Psalm 91 he carried with him and had an agreement with his family that they would read it every Wednesday night. He believed Pslam 91 kept him safe and suggested I do the same. I am so thankful he shared that with me. Last year I studied Peggy Ruth Joyce’s book and came to realize how much it was meant for everyone. I bought copies for a number of people. Thank you Peggy Ruth Joyce for your wonderful book. Peggy F. Please continue praying for Afghanistan!
