Don’t Ignore Satan - Answer Him!
We were visiting with friends and all the children were playing in their back yard. Angie burst in to tell us that Bill was dismantling their swing set, but because he was only two we really didn’t pay any attention, assuming that she was overreacting. How much harm could a two-year-old do to a swing set? Finally, when she came in for the third time we went out to find that he had, indeed, almost disassembled the whole thing. The children were crying as they stood helplessly watching. The slide was already on the ground and other parts were piled around, while Bill sat, contentedly taking out the remaining screws with his little fingers.
That episode pictures two things to me. It pictures how Satan can dismantle our lives when we ignore warnings. Angelia was warning and we were ignoring. But that scenario also pictures how a young Christian with God’s ability can totally dismantle the enemy’s plan.
The Bible is given to us to build Godly convictions in our heart so that we can resist the devil in faith. If we wait until we feel like resisting the enemy we will probably never do it. Satan will dismantle our lives if we ignore him, by failing to listen and doing nothing when we hear those subtle warning signals. Remember, there is not one scriptural promise made to the one who ignores.
Faith is a conviction that God’s Word works. For example, good things can happen when we stand on Psalm 91 and say with conviction, “Lord, I choose to dwell in Your shelter. You are my refuge and my fortress and You are the one who delivers me from pestilence and every evil. Your faithfulness is my shield against the enemy, therefore, I will not fear. Though a thousand may fall at my side and ten thousand at my right hand, you have promised that it will not approach me.”
The majority of Christians shrink back in fear at the thought of an enemy attack. Unfortunately, however, there are many of those even in the minority crowd, who are assuming that they are fighting the devil simply because they are using positive thinking. Positive thinking is not one of God’s divinely empowered weapons, and it will not work against the enemy any better than shrinking back. Positive is better than negative but it has no “power of deliverance” built in.
Very little of what most Christians do amounts to spiritual warfare. Spiritually ignoring has no scriptural power!
But if we continue to stand on God’s promises until we see the results, that kind of resisting will eventually dismantle the enemy’s assignment!
